Generic Skills:
Throughout my years of study, I have gained many skills needed for my future career. Some generic skills I have gained over the years include communication, research skills, working with groups and managing time in stressful situations. These skills have given me the ability to work better with people. These skills have also improved ability to work in volunteering environments. I have learnt to manage and maintain my time when volunteering and studying and have been able to work with a variety of different people from different cultures which have also impacted my communication skills.
Specialised Skills:
My course has also given me the ability to gain more skills which are targeted towards my future career. Some of these specialised skills include working with people of other cultures and backgrounds and has also explained to me what violence is like, what the different types of violence are and how to cope, manage and support victims of family and domestic violence. These skills are well needed in social work as clients come from many cultures and backgrounds. Learning about the different types of violence has helped as it gives me the ability to understand in more depth of what it is like.
Community funding application development:
Throughout the process of creating the presentation, I have been able to gather the skills needed to build the capacity and skills to conduct community needs analysis through the use of research about the area which the community group is based in. That way, I am able to identify the needs of the community and the specific age group who are in need of services. To create and identify the project, my research skills helped me. I conducted research in order to identify what the community needs. My knowledge of community-based organisations allowed me to believe that spreading awareness through media can bring in stakeholders for investments for the organisation which can help gather the funding needed to create the organisation. Possession of knowledge and familiarity with requirements of funding bodies includes governance, the board and stakeholders. These three things are needed to create and sustain funding for the organisation.
Applied debating: Developing position papers:
Throughout this assessment, I have been able to effectively partake in an applied debate as I have managed to understand the topic quite thoroughly. Through my use of research, I was able to apply a debate from both perspectives about comprehensive and inclusive sex education. My ability to develop skills to develop position papers has expanded as I was able to discuss both sides of the issue and create a strong debate with a lot of evidence and back up to support my debate. By putting these skills into place, I was able to maintain my argument and create a solid position paper with a sufficient amount of research and evidence.
